If you look in your 1969-on Alfa Romeo owner's manual, chances are it calls for 80W/90HD Shell Spirax Extreme Pressure gear oil for the transmission, rear axle and steering gearbox. Spirax is a non-synthetic GL-5 oil. (Most GL-5 oils contain friction modifiers that are said by many experts to shorten Alfa synchromesh life.)
