Ventilation & Heating Controls on a Fiat Spider

The heating and ventilation controls on a Fiat Spider can often be downright confusing to new owners. As with any car, the more familiar you are with the controls, the more fun you’ll have on the road. This guide refers to the operation of a 1975 Fiat Spider. Your car’s controls may vary.

The primary controls for your heating and ventilation system are located on the console between the front seats.

  • The Heater Fan Switch (C) can only function when the car ignition is on.
    • Pressed in at right = High Speed
    • Pressed in at left = Low Speed
    • Intermediate position = Off
    • It’s not uncommon to find that a previous owner accidentally installed the switch backwards while finishing up a project. If this is the case, you’ll simply do the opposite of what is described above. The flow of air and sound from the fan will tell you when you’re on High or Low.
  • Lever D controls the air temperature
    • When the lever is pulled all the way back, you’ll get no heat.
    • When the lever is pulled all the way forward, you’ll get maximum heat.
  • Lever E controls Fresh Air Volume
    • When the lever is pulled all the way back, the fresh air flow is open.
    • When the lever is pulled all the way forward, fresh air flow is closed off.
    • Please note the manual recommends using the intermediate position during cooler weather. This limits the flow of cold air around the heater core.

  • Lever F controls the amount of air flowing through the Dashboard (A) and Console Vents (B).
    • When the lever is pulled completely back, the air flows through the Dashboard Vents only.
    • When the lever is pushed completely forward, the air flows through both the Dashboard Vents and the Console Vents.

  • Outlet H is located under the passenger side dash. This vent allows the flow of fresh unheated air. You regulate the air flow by adjusting Lever G.

We hope that this brief guide helps to take some of the mystery out of your Fiat Spider’s heating and ventilation controls.
