Exhaust System Installation, 1979-on Fiat 124 Spider

Fiat Spider Exhaust SystemReference: Premature Breakages of Center and Rear Mufflers. All Fiat Spiders would benefit from the bracket modifications below. The critical models seem to be cars with catalytic converters because of their additional weight and heat.

Existing brackets (A), (B) and (C) are not supporting the system enough. The springs at point (B) come off and stretch, which leaves point (A) and (C) taking most of the weight. Because of the long distance between them, the pipes in between are put under stress.

We suggest adding an additional flexible hanger at point (D) and attaching it to the parking brake cable bracket (Note: this bracket is already welded on your chassis). You will have to cut or drill a hole in the bracket in order to bolt a universal-type strap on. Position strap to where it will lend the maximum amount on support.
