Fiat Spider Roll Bar Installation

To install our roll bar in a Fiat 124 Spider or 2000 Spider:

  1. Slide both front seats forward, lower top and remove lower rear seat cushion.

  2. Remove side panels covering top mechanism.

  3. Place roll bar in car with main hoop mounting pads resting on junction of pressed frame ribs just to the rear of the front seats.

  4. Check to see that all rear mounting pads are resting evenly on the fender wells and that the tops operate.

  5. Using a 3/8 x 8 drill bit, drill through frame channel using front hole in main hoop pads as a guide.

  6. Insert 7 bolt in the holes just drilled and repeat operation for the other holes in front pads. (Lift carpeting and note the location of the wiring harness use caution to avoid damage.) Note the geometry of the underside of the car before drilling-drill at a slight angle to center bottom hole in a flat section. Note that both sides are not the same shape.

  7. Using bar as a template, drill holes for rear space pads.

  8. Using washers in the front, and small plates in the rear on the underside of car, fasten bar in place. Do not tighten so as to crush pressed frame member.

  9. Double lock nut all bolts for safety.

  10. Trim side panels to fit and replace.

  11. Bow seat cushion and slide partially in place. Note points of interference with bar, remove and disengage upholstery staples at those points.
  12. Lift upholstery and cut outer wire frame with hacksaw and remove.
  13. Bend inner frame wire to contour to fit around bar, refasten upholstery and slip seat in to place tightly between bar.
Note: If you do not have access to a long bit, use a long rod or center punch to mark bottom of channel and drill upward from underside of car.

Please note that the roll bar does not guarantee your safety in a roll-over accident. Drive with caution.
