When installing an air/fuel ratio monitor on cars that are not equipped with an oxygen sensor, it will be necessary to install the optional O2 sensor in the exhaust system so that readings of the mixture
can be made.
- Locate a portion of the downpipe where the sensor can be installed. It should be as close to the manifold as possible, while allowing for a sampling of all cylinders.
- Use a metal hole saw to cut an opening for the sensor. The hole should be approximately 11/16 in diameter.
- Center the supplied adapter nut over the hole and weld it in place. Take special care to assure that the weld is complete and that there will be no leaks.
- Screw the oxygen sensor into place. Do not touch the end of the sensor or use a silicone sealer as contamination can damage the sensor.
Please note, though, that the Lambda/oxygen sensor system is hyper-sensitive near the middle (stoichiometric) mixture ranges, so it's normal for the gauge to bounce back and forth when it's near the correct mixture. If you have carburetors, you shouldn't expect to see a perfect pattern--carbs just aren't that accurate. |
