Alfa Spider Boot Hook Installation

On the Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce 86-94 the front top boot hooks were made of plastic and are problematic. When installed at the factory Alfa used rivets to attach the plastic hook to the plastic backing plate, (our part numbers 36029 and 36028). Often the hook would crack around the rivet holes and break off (photo1). The replacement parts that we offer here at IAP are made from stainless steel and should last the life of the backing plate (photo 2).

Tools needed: Cordless drill, 3/16 drill bit, eye protection, gloves, pliers, rivet gun, 3/16 aluminum rivets and washers. (photo 3)

Remove the boot from the car and to a clean work space. With the boot turned wrong side out use the drill with a 3/16 bit to drill the rivets and remove the old hooks (photo 4). Clean any debris from the backing plate. Make sure you have the correct side before proceeding. The plate marked "D" (photo 5) indicates the right hand side and the other, marked "S" (photo 6) indicates the left hand side. Insert the rivet from the top side using an aluminum washer against the new hook. Start the rivet but do not fully tighten them yet (photo 7). Once all four rivets started then you can tighten them until they snap off.
