Leather Shift Boot Installation

No. 63212 FIAT 124 SPIDER: Grasp shift lever in one hand and unscrew shift knob (counterclockwise). Remove screws holding front and rear of center console. Lift rear of console up to get front clear of dash and pull console up and out far enough to get to the boot retainer ring.
Caution: when pulling out console, be careful of wiring in back of console (label any wires you unplug).
Find the quarter inch pin in the retainer ring and carefully pull the two ends of the ring apart. Remove old boot and trial-fit the new one. If it is a tight fit, trim some excess leather from the inner seams of the boot. Refit center console.

No. 63211 ALFA ROMEO with center console:

Grasp shift lever and pull off knob. No. 63214 Unscrew rings on switches and push them through console (on cars with ash trays, switches may be reached by removing ashtray). Remove screws holding console and pull console completely out of the car. Alfa boots are originally attached in two ways: they are stapled to the console or are held in by pins on the chrome trim ring. Remove the old boot. If it has holes along the base, punch holes in leather boot in the same places. Install boot on trim ring, replace retainer and put trim ring back in console. Replace center console.
