Component Identification in a 1984 Alfa GTV6 1 Radiator expansion tank, pressurized in the GTV6. 2 Clutch master cylinder reservoir. Clutch master cylinder is directly underneath. 3 Windshield washer reservoir. 4 Bank of headlight relays (added by owner for more reliable headlight operation). 5 Junction for alternator feed & charge light on dash. A source of always-hot 12V power. 6 Brake booster (vacuum-operated). 7 Reservoir for brake master cylinder. Master cylinder is directly below. 8 Check valve for brake booster vacuum line. Allows air to flow only towards the intake manifold; preserves vacuum in the booster circuit for some time. 9 Oil filler cap. 10 Ignition coil and amplifier. 11 Radiator thermostatic fan switch. 12 Feed line to fuel rail (from pump). 13 Cold start valve ("injector"); opened by thermo-time switch (#22) during cold cranking. 14 Fuel rail (distributes fuel to each injector). 15 Idle adjuster (meters the amount of intake charge that can bypass the throttle body). 16 Vacuum line to fuel pressure regulator. 17 Fuel pressure regulator. Maintains constant pressure in the fuel rail. 18 Coolant temp sender for dashboard gauge (sender is hidden from view). 19 Brass air bleed bolt for filling cooling system. Open it to prevent air pockets during refilling. 20 Coolant temp sensor for fuel injection. 21 Ignition coil. Coolant temp sensor for ignition (should not be connected on GTV6). 22 Thermo-time switch for cold start valve (hidden from view). 23 Throttle position switch. Signals ECU (computer) during full-throttle and idle. 24 Throttle body. Contains a large butterfly valve. 25 Vacuum line to distributor advance. 26 Upper radiator hose. 27 Return fuel line (back to tank). 28 Line for vacuum gauge (added by owner, using a "T" fitting). 29 Oil/vapor separator. Crankcase fumes pass through this small canister. 30 Coolant line, connected to heater core. 31 Throttle cable. 32 Intake air hose. Any leak here will cause very poor running. 33 Auxiliary air valve - allows extra air and fuel to bypass the throttle valve while the engine is warming up; causes a faster idle. (hidden from view). 34 Distributor. 35 Battery cable connector (& main lead to starter solenoid). 36 Wiper motor (beneath this bracket). 37 Altitude compensator. Sends its signal to the ECU (computer). 38 Connectors for oxygen sensors (one for the exhaust from each bank of cylinders. 39 IAP exhaust header (owner has had them ceramic-coated). 40 Airflow meter (movement of the vane is converted to an electrical signal for the fuel injection computer). 41 Airbox (contains air filter). 42 Combination relay. Powers fuel pump and injectors. 43 Hoses to fuel vapor canister. Part of the evaporative emissions system. 44 Air conditioning hose (disconnected by owner). 45 Bracket for A/C receiver-drier (removed by owner). 46 Inertia switch (cuts fuel pump power in a crash or rollover; can be manually reset by pressing button). 47 Heater hose. |
