The photo shows a returned Bosch pump we cut open; note the trash inside.When your Alfa Romeo or Fiat fuel pump dies, consider that there may be a good reason besides old age: rust and other contaminants could be reaching the pump, which is a delicate and precise (and expensive) component. As parts vendors, we see the following scenario over and over: a customer buys a fuel pump, installs it, it fails within a week or so, he sends it back, we open it up and it's full of rust and scale from the customer's car. Please note that we cannot issue a refund or credit in such cases. Fuel pumps--especially the sophisticated, higher-pressure ones used in fuel-injected cars--simply cannot survive the ingestion of rust and scale. To be safe, you must replace any filter(s) that are upstream of the pump before installing a pump. If you have any reason to believe your tank is rusty, you need to replace it or have it professionally cleaned and sealed. - Mark Lee |
