In cases where these vehicles jump out of gear, the problem is not always within the gearbox. Before removing the gearbox to address this problem, check the following:
1) Shift boot interference - If not properly positioned, the inner boots can interfere with one another so that they create a force on the lever that pushes it toward the neutral position. Under certain driving conditions this will cause the lever to come out of gear. Check that all boots are in place and not deformed. Reposition or replace as necessary. Also ensure that the outer boot is not limiting the movement of the shift lever.
2) Shift lever interference - If the lever is not located properly on the swivel or if the gearbox or motor mounts are excessively worn, the lever can come in contact with the console.
Be certain that sufficient clearance exists in all gear positions.
